Sections

Section is a named, logical part of the test.

Sections help you to divide your tests into logical parts. This is very useful in some cases:

  1. For example, you have a test with 300 questions base for three different paragraphs (120 questions for first paragraph, 100 questions for second paragraph and 120 questions for third paragraph) in algebra. But you want to show only 10, 8 and 7 randomly selected questions from first, second and third paragraphs. To do it you only need to create three sections, where each section contains questions for one of the paragraphs (for example, first section for first paragraph, second for second and third for third). Then select to show 10, 8 and 7 questions from first, second and third test and set up to show all sections in section settings. And that's all; you don't have to do anything else if you work with UniTest System. Another example: your test has four levels of questions difficulty and you want to show 8 easy questions, 5 normal questions, 4 hard questions and 3 very hard questions (from corresponding levels of difficulty).
  2. You have 25 variations of the same test (test with 25 variants) and you want to test people on one of the randomly selected variant of this test (for example, it is an examination with 25 variants for students). Again, you just create 25 sections where one variant is one section. The only difference is that now you select to show all questions of the section and let computer select only one section (not show all of them) in section settings. And tour customized test is ready without any problems! Or you may want to let people select the variant they want to test, and again it is very easy to do.

...

Of course, there are much more situations where you can use the power of sections.

You can create sections and custome section settings using Sections tab on the Test Properties dialog. Select Properties... from the File menu to open Test Properties dialog box, then go to Sections tab.

You only need to enter section name and number of questions to select from this section (if you need all questions to be shown, then just type in big value, for example, 10000) in corresponding input fields. Press Add button after filling these fields to add section to the list of sections for the current test.

To update (change) section: select it from the list, enter updated name and/or number of questions to select from section and press Update button.

To delete section: select it from the list and press Delete button.

Left to sections in the list of sections you can find checkboxes. If you will uncheck checkbox, then section that corresponds to this checkbox will not be available when testing.

You can work with created sections four different ways:

  1. Display checked sections in specified order - allows showing the specified number of sections (by their order in the list, order is easy to change using buttons with up and down arrows) with specified number of questions within these sections.
  2. Display checked sections randomly - allows showing the specified number of sections (by random order) with specified number of questions within these sections.
  3. Display user-selected section - allows showing the specified section (selected by people before testing, only checked sections are available) with specified number of questions within it.
  4. Display randomly selected section - allows showing the randomly selected section (randomly selected from checked sections, because unchecked sections are not available when testing) with specified number of questions within it.
